Sowing Seeds of sustainability in Saplings

by Indibni Support 18 Jul 2019 0 Comments

Raksha Bandhan is a grand festival, which celebrates the virtuous bond of love between siblings across the country, but do we ever wonder where does the Rakhi end after the celebration?

In the dump! Adding to the millions of existing tons of garbage. This made us ponder on to the issue and thus, we innovated SeedRakhi®, a rakhi which can be sown and grown into plant helping India become greener and cleaner.

Originating from the farms, bred naturally, hand-crafted by women self-help groups, dyed organically, embellished by garden-friendly seeds, the SeedRakhi® embodies the best of nature!

SeedRakhi® is a step closer to change the way of celebration and help make memories last a lifetime while considering our responsibilities towards Mother Earth!

Nitin Jain, CEO Indibni says, “In India, every festival is celebrated with great joy and happiness but we often ignore the harm it causes to the environment. Raksha Bandhan is also one of the festivals which adds up to the waste of the country, thus we took an initiative and started #Sowaseedrakhi campaign under which we will be educating children this year about this issue, empowering women self-help groups and contributing to the sustainability of the environment.”

Under this campaign, Indifamily® foundation organized a Seed Rakhi Workshop on 14th July at Indibni® for kids of age group between 6-18 years with FICCI Ladies Organization, Jaipur.

It was a Sunday which turned out to be a fun day with the enthusiasm and interest of the kids. The workshop started with a welcoming speech, followed by telling them about tons of waste we are producing during our celebrations and how can we decrease that with bio-degradable solutions like SeedRakhi. All kids were ready and determined to pledge for a healthier & greener planet. Thus, we taught them “How to make Seed Rakhi” for their siblings. Everyone was divided into a team of two. Our employees Ritu and Mansi demonstrated them how to create rakhis.

It started with instructions on how to create different types of Rakhi band with knotting techniques like a simple knot, fishtail knot, and a square knot. The kids were following the instruction and some of them even innovated their own patterns. Kids were excited to make Seed Rakhis, Siddhant an 8-year-old kid said with enthusiasm- “I will make three rakhis, two for my brothers and another for my bhabhi

After the base of Seed Rakhi was done, Mansi and Ritu taught them how to decorate their rakhis with pom-pom and thread flowers, followed by attaching the most integral part of the Seed Rakhi-THE SEED. With our volunteers help the kids completed their seed rachis and realized how easy it is to buy a Rakhi and how much effort goes in making one Rakhi, but it’s all worth it for Mother Earth!

One of our young change-makers, Navya said – This is such an innovative idea to help the environment and to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly way. I will tell all my friends about the workshop and will show them my seed Rakhi.

Mukta Bansandani, mother of one of the participant said- “It was great to be a part of such a noble initiative like SEED RAKHI. It is great how Indibni® has innovated this concept to minimize waste and maximize happiness with growing plants

The kids kept their Rakhi in the Seed Rakhi boxes and there was a sense of accomplishment and happiness on their faces. Our young ambassadors pledged to make India greener and cleaner with Seed Rakhi. The little saplings loved making their own Seed Rakhis and assured to take care of Mother Earth.

Our workshop came to an end with it, we distributed refreshments among kids and bid goodbyes to them. After the workshop, not only the parents but we were also happy to see our young change makers leading us towards a better future!

As Independence Day and Rakshabandhan are on the same day, 15th August this year, Indifamily foundation has taken a great initiative for our soldiers. With every order, they will send a special Seed Rakhi to our brothers on front, who protects us unconditionally! Be a part of the change!!
