An Introduction To How We Celebrate Raksha Bandhan In New India

by Nitin Jain 06 Aug 2021 0 Comments

Life! Such a small word but that’s all we have. Isn’t it? It is in so much abundance around us that we often forget about its value. Nature, that we have come out of, does remind us from time to time. The greenhouse effect, melting glaciers, floods, landslides, skin cancer, draughts are all just the beginning.

Life came to Earth nearly 3.5 billion years ago and has nearly been swiped off from the face of Earth multiple times. But when compared to the scale of human life that cycle is yet not supposed to occur any time sooner. Human greed, industrialization, and deforestation have been putting so much CO2 in the air since the last century which Earth isn’t designed to process. Our planet is literally dying.

Venus, our neighboring planet, which once had oceans, is dead. Now it just boils with CO2 and sulphuric acid. If we do not stop putting so much CO2 and methane into the environment, Venus is our near future. With the current rate, we will soon hit the point of irreversibility. That would be the end of any kind of life on Earth and that would be our fault. Killing it before its natural time to say goodbye.

Thankfully, with sustainable alternatives, we still have some time. But we are at the tipping point. We need to act now. And as always, nature is our friend and not an enemy. One of our oldest relatives is here to the rescue. Did you know, the DNA sequence in plants and humans is similar enough that scientists can trace them all back to a single ancient gene? We are one.

Today we have a situation of increasing carbon footprint. The same carbon that in one form is the basis of all life on Earth is killing us in another form. The plastic and other synthetic non-biodegradable rakhis we use in Raksha Bandhan are polluting our oceans, lands, and skies.

And as we did talk earlier about still having a chance. It is within what you decide to do. SeedRakhi, which is India’s first SeedRakhi, is one such small but crucial step towards a big change. After all, it is all about starting. If you can ignite the fire, someone else can carry it further. More than just being a rakhi, it is a change of thought and that too an immediate one. Even if it reaches a few, the idea will not die and that is what SeedRakhi is all about. A change that India brings to the united world. That sustainable innovation lies not in heavy technological fronts but in noble intentions.

It’s a seed of thought. SeedRakhi, a rakhi with seeds in it, which you and your brother can together sow and grow into a plant of your choice.

Let’s celebrate this Raksha Bandhan in a way a new generation of India would celebrate while setting a perfect example of one world, one family, and one bond. If one person could change the world then we are 1.37 billion in India and more than 620 million celebrate Raksha Bandhan all over the world, then we definitely can. Can’t we?

Make this world not a better place but at least what it was once without human intervention. Together we can do so, one rakhi at a time.
